Creature CollectionWhisperhope Prison, situated on the secluded Shatter Beak island in the Opal Sea, stands as Veargreum's pinnacle of high-security incarceration. Coming equipped with anti-magic fields and a fleet of constant guard ships circling the island. Here the condemned face a fate far grimmer than death. Beneath the veneer of a seemingly humane correctional facility lies a perilous reality: the prison's depths tell the true story of the horrors awaiting in the prison. Just like the surface the prisoners are allowed to roam free during the day, but since the prison breaches the upper layer of the Gloom it introduces a constant threat of monstrous invasions after curfew. Encouraging prisoners to return to their designated cells which will automatically lock, keeping the prisoners safe from the Gloom invaders. Amidst the looming threat of monsters, Whisperhope Prison harbors a cruel underbelly, where an array of frugal yet gruesome torture methods awaits those who dare to step out of line. The absence of vigilant guards in the prison's depths fosters an environment where prisoners establish their own rules and a macabre social hierarchy. At the apex of this brutal order stands the notorious gang leader known as "The Queen," wielding power through fear and orchestrating a grim reign over the incarcerated masses. While escape through the Gloom is technically plausible, it only serves as a deceptive lure, concealing the grim fate awaiting any daring enough to venture into its depths.
Upon entry into Whisperhope Prison, prisoners are adorned in distinctive jumpsuits, each emblazoned with a visual testament to the gravity of their transgressions. These jumpsuits serve as a symbolic street creed within the prison's walls, visually communicating the severity of their crimes. The number of stripes adorning the jumpsuit becomes an unspoken language, with an increasing count reflecting the escalating magnitude of the committed offenses, creating an unwavering hierarchy of criminality.
Funding for this macabre institution stems not only from the facade presented to the public but also from the Meadows family, shrewdly wielding Whisperhope as both a repository for political adversaries and a covert base of operations, ensures the prison's financial sustenance through their questionable influence and dark machinations. Other prisoners sentenced to death become subjects of experimental machinations to an offsite laboratory Everlab 14 for extra profit. Those of magical disposition serve as living batteries, channeling their essence to power not only the prison's operations but also sating the insatiable hunger of the lurking Umbra dwelling in its depths, perceiving both inmates and the prison itself as its coveted hoard—an unsettling secret known only to the prison's highest-ranking officers. The Umbra, thrives on the prisoners' unyielding sorrow, a malevolent force that revels in the twisted pleasure of magical torment. It orchestrates sinister spectacles by coaxing ethereal mouths to materialize upon the prison's walls, whispering illusions of hope to the inmates, only to cruelly snatch it away in a malefic dance, savoring the ensuing waves of despair that cascade through the prison's confines.
If the mouths on the walls were not enough prisoners must also cope with the feeling of being constantly watched. As engineered insectoid constructs dwell here, birthed within the clandestine laboratory, serve as surreptitious wardens within the confines of Whisperhope Prison. Functioning like arcane drones, these artificial bugs weave through the prison's labyrinth, providing prison officials with an omnipresent gaze into the activities of the incarcerated. The incessant crawl of these insectoid spies furnishes the warden with an unrelenting visual stream, ensuring an ever-vigilant eye on the prisoners. Furthermore, these mechanical insects boast a sinister capability—under the prison's command, they can swarm specific inmates, carrying them as captives to predetermined locations, a chilling display of control within the prison's foreboding walls.
