Creature CollectionIn a realm far above the reach of mortals, there lived 3 beings known as the Umbra. They were once gods, ruling over the skies and the land with their immense power, but a great war had been fought in the heavens, and the Umbra were cast down from their throne. They fell to the material world, stripped of their divinity but still possessing a fraction of their former power. Crash landing into the material plane caused cataclysmic damage to the surrounding land similar to a meteor strike. Once the dust settled and these craters were forged these fallen gods' began to radiate magic that transformed the world around them. Over time, the flora and fauna of the areas where they lived would gradually bend to their will, becoming twisted and strange as the Umbra's magic took hold. But as the years passed, the memories of the Umbras past lives as gods faded. They were no longer sure if their memories were real or just figments of their imagination. They desperately sought to reclaim them, they began hoarding magic and knowledge.
Umbraborn
As the Umbras fell, they were met by groups of humanoids who worshiped them as their gods. Over generations, the Umbras magic mutated the humanoids, shaping them into creatures known as the Umbraborn. These beings were a fusion of humanoids and Umbra, with a fierce loyalty to their gods.
Umbra’Kai
The Umbra, now realizing their magic can be used to strengthen others, choose several of their most trusted followers to imbue with even more of their power. This resulted in the followers growing in size and power until they resembled their Umbra gods. However, the first of the Mire Umbras did not trust giving an already intelligent being this kind of power for fear they would one day rise up against them. So instead of one of their followers they choose to transform several powerful beasts instead. These lesser copies went on to be known as the Umbra’kai or Umbra Spawn. The Umbra’kai were indeed a formidable force, each with its own unique abilities and strengths. Some were incredibly fast and agile, while others were massive and incredibly strong. All of them were fiercely loyal to their Umbra creators, following their every command without question. However, as the Umbra’kai continued to spread throughout the land, their power began to attract the attention of other races. Some saw the Umbra’kai as a threat, while others saw them as an opportunity to harness their power for their own gain. This eventually led to the Umbra’kai becoming a sought-after commodity, with many races vying for control over the powerful creatures. Wars were fought, alliances were formed and broken, and the Umbra’kai became a central figure in the power struggles of the land. Despite all this, the Umbra’kai remained loyal to their Umbra gods, always ready to defend them against any who threatened their power. And so, the Umbra’kai became one of the most feared and respected forces in the world, their power and influence shaping the very course of history.
