Creature CollectionAlong the coast of Crius lies a hidden wonder, a bastion known only to the swashbucklers who patrol the waters near the Tormek mountains known as the Crius Crusaders. The Carat Caverns, a sprawling labyrinth of underground passages, house a treasure trove of crystals both colossal and exquisite. Its entrance to the embrace of the sea, beckoning the pirates to sail their vessel into its depths. Yet, treacherous waters and perilous whirlpools deter all but the boldest mariners.
Herein lies the pirates secret weapon: the Swell Sorcerers, masters of wave and sea, who tame the unruly waters, ensuring safe passage for their brethren. To bolster their defenses, an age-old pact stands firm with a formidable Trench Umbra, guardian of the strait. In exchange for a share of the plunder, this giant reptile patrols the entrance, striking terror into any who dare encroach. Its fearsome form bears a haunted shipwreck on its back, a grim reminder to would-be intruders.
The pirates, mysterious in their code, are no mere thieves. Led by their fearless Captain Elara or Crystal Eye Voss, these marauders only target wealthy merchant vessels, redistributing their spoils to distant settlements, sowing goodwill amidst the realm. The dwarfs of the Tormek peaks, astute and pragmatic, have struck an unspoken accord. They turn a blind eye to the pirates' enterprise, provided their ships remain untouched, and the pirates serve as discreet couriers. In return, the pirates' sanctuary remains shrouded in secrecy, a shared pact safeguarded in silence.
For generations, the pirates have charted the perilous depths of the caverns, wisdom and wealth passed down through their ranks. Titles, adorned with the brilliance of gems, signify standing among their ranks with the more precious the gem the higher the ranking of the pirate. Yet, venturing too deep courts peril even for the most experienced pirate. Peculiar insects that burrow into flesh, transforming the flesh to crystal for the insects consumption—a fate escaped only by Fel'dari whose obsidian bodies remain impervious to their deadly effects.
Within the sanctum, a menagerie of Gemstone Geckos, tamed and trained, help construct shanty towns out of hollowed out crystals. Other creatures such as the beautiful Prismaris bird and the blue furred Azurians, guard against pests and keep the spirit of camaraderie alive. Radiant crystals cast their hues, painting the caverns in a perpetual kaleidoscope, a testament to the cave's artistry.
Beyond their breathtaking beauty, the crystals within the cave harbor a myriad of practical applications. They yield to skilled hands, honed into blades of exquisite craftsmanship or fashioned into deadly projectiles. Among them, a select few pulsate with a strange magic called electricity, animating mechanical marvels. These wondrous contraptions grant the pirates' ships a velocity and lethality unrivaled in the waters of Veargreum.
