Native to the frozen forests and glacial expanses of Veargreum, the Snowdrop Hare is a small yet remarkably adapted mammal, built to thrive in the unforgiving cold. Its fluffy white fur provides exceptional insulation, while its oversized ears grant keen hearing and double as natural wraps, curling around its body for added warmth.

Rather than running, Snowdrop Hares rely on their powerful hind legs to propel themselves in swift, bounding hops. Their large, snowshoe-like feet prevent them from sinking into soft snow, allowing them to glide effortlessly across the frozen terrain. At the end of their long, delicate tail sits a puff of fur, which they use for silent communication—twitching it to signal colony members or sweeping it across the snow to erase their tracks. This habit of tidiness, combined with their small size and plush fur, has made them a beloved choice as household pets.

Snowdrop Hares spend most of their time either foraging for food on the surface or nestled safely in their burrows. However, the permafrost and compacted snow make digging difficult, so the species has formed a unique symbiotic relationship with a native plant. This fast-growing flora extends an extensive underground root network, capable of breaking apart even the toughest frozen earth. During warmer months, Snowdrop Hares actively seek out and bury the plant’s bulbs within their burrows, ensuring the soil remains loose and habitable while also helping the plant spread. In return, the hare benefits from reinforced, well-ventilated burrows that remain sturdy and insulated against the encroaching cold.
