The Putrid Puddle is an accumulation of the creatures called Clots. In the depths of the god of undeath Viscerath's domain, Clots serve as loyal caretakers, swiftly responding to any damage on their god by sacrificing themselves to mend the wounds. However, in rare instances, Clots can undergo a catastrophic transformation, merging uncontrollably to birth a new abomination: the Putrid Puddle.
Unlike their benevolent predecessors, Putrid Puddles harbor a sinister appetite for decay, forsaking the sacred duty of restoration for the gruesome pursuit of consuming dead flesh. Cast out from Viscera's realm, these glowing entities roam the surface, drawn to sites of death like moths to flame. Graveyards and battlefields become their haunting grounds, where the stench of mortality lures them in.
Devoid of true eyes, the ones that appear to gaze from within their translucent bodies are not their own, but remnants of their recent meals. The Putrid Puddle isn't an active hunter of the living, but rather a voracious scavenger for decaying flesh. Fueled by this relentless urge, they prowl the land, seeking out corpses with uncanny precision, guided by their heightened sense of smell. However, encountering a Putrid Puddle is far from safe. Their gelatinous bodies secrete a potent acid that can dissolve flesh upon contact, making any inadvertent encounter with them perilous. This gelatinous form also allows them to infiltrate even the most inaccessible places, squeezing into coffins and mausoleums in search of their next meal. The stench of death that emanates from their form serves as a warning, alerting travelers to their presence and the danger they pose. Careful travelers, for they follow death as much as death follows them.
This CR3 creature is called a Putrid Puddle and is an Ooze that lives mostly within the Graveyard.
