Drifting silently through the shade of old tombs, Marionette Weavers are unsettling, half-formed beings composed of an upper torso and long, mechanical-like arms. From the waist down, their bodies unravel into thin, swaying tendrils of enchanted thread, constantly weaving and shifting as they move. Their pearl-white exoskeleton-like frames give them an unnatural, almost artificial appearance, though their origins remain unknown.
Marionette Weavers do not require sustenance or rest, existing solely to entertain themselves by manipulating living creatures as puppets. Their fingers spin nearly invisible fibers, which painlessly embed into the nervous systems of their victims, granting the Weavers complete control over their motor functions. Once ensnared, a victim will move, fight, and even speak at the Weaver’s command, often turning on allies in ways that make their possession nearly imperceptible at first. The Weavers take great joy in orchestrating elaborate "performances," using their captives as unwilling actors in macabre displays of their own design.
One particularly notorious Weaver has been documented—a being unlike the rest, possessing four arms instead of two and a dark gray, dull exterior rather than the Weavers' typical pearlescent sheen. Known as the Traitor’s Thread, this Weaver does not merely manipulate; it weaves intricate tapestries depicting the life stories of its victims, as though recording their very essence in strands of enchanted silk. Its face is expressionless, save for a single, pupil-less eye set into the right side of its smooth mask. Despite lacking a mouth, eerie laughter echoes whenever it moves its puppets into play.
The Weavers are most often encountered deep within ancient ruins, waiting for travelers to wander into their unseen snares. Their delicate threads are nearly imperceptible to the naked eye, making it difficult to recognize a victim's control until it is too late. Many who have encountered them describe battles ending in chaos and paranoia, as allies unknowingly turn on one another, leaving only the Weavers to watch and revel in their cruel amusement.
This CR6 creature is called a Marionette Weaver and is a Construct that lives mostly within the Ruins.
