The Ignis Iguana is a formidable predatory lizard, measuring between 6 to 8 feet long(little over 2 meters), and native to the frozen forests and glacial expanses of Tardrix. Though not true Umbras, they are distantly related to Mire Umbras, a connection that likely explains their rare ability to generate internal fire magic. Unlike their distant relatives, however, Ignis Iguanas cannot breathe fire—instead, they use this innate heat to regulate their body temperature and cook their prey.

These creatures are ambush predators, lying in wait beneath the deep snow for unsuspecting prey, such as Snowdrop Hares, to wander too close. Their bodies are lined with specialized heat vents, which prevent them from overheating and serve multiple functions. By releasing controlled bursts of heat, they can melt surrounding snow to make burrowing easier or generate clouds of steam to obscure themselves from danger.

One of their most striking features is the row of spinal spikes along their backs, which resemble jagged icicles. This adaptation provides both camouflage and protection from larger predators. Their padded tail serves as a versatile tool, compacting snow for better concealment and aiding in swimming, as Ignis Iguanas are frequent visitors to frozen lakes, especially in their youth.

Their life cycle begins in these very lakes, where eggs are laid along the icy shores. The freezing waters serve an important role in their development—submersion helps young Ignis Iguanas learn to control their fire magic, ensuring they do not exhaust their energy before mastering their abilities.

As adults, Ignis Iguanas form bonded pairs, with males attracting mates through culinary prowess. A potential mate is enticed not by elaborate displays or combat, but by the promise of a perfectly cooked meal—the more precisely roasted the prey, the more desirable the male becomes.

This CR5 creature is called an Ignis Iquana and is an Umbra that lives mostly within the Glacial.
