Deep within the shadowy depths of Tenaronus or the mortal realm, Gutlings prowl the vast expanse of the open sea, stalking ships with a sinister patience born of ancient malice. When a lone vessel ventures into their domain, these cunning fiends latch onto its hull with their suction-cupped tentacles, becoming silent parasites hidden beneath the waves. For weeks or even months, the Gutling lies in wait, emitting a subtle psionic frequency that echoes through the ship's timbers, its insidious waves mimicking the calls of benign marine life. Unbeknownst to the crew, this sinister melody slowly chips away at their sanity, driving them to the brink of madness with each passing day. As the sailors descend into delirium, paranoia, and violence, the Gutling watches from the shadows, its malevolent presence unseen and its hunger unsated. When the crew has been driven to the depths of despair, consumed by their own madness, the fiend emerges from its hiding place to feast upon the carnage it has wrought. With a voracious appetite for death and destruction, the Gutling preys upon the fallen, gorging itself on the corpses of the slain and plundering any treasures that remain. Once its grim harvest is complete, the fiend slips back into the depths, leaving behind only whispered tales of sea madness and despair in its wake.
This CR13 creature is called a Gutling and is a Fiend that lives mostly within the Watery Depths.
